PnL Calculation & Position Math

Long Position PnL

For a long position, you profit when the price goes up.

PnL = (Exit Price - Entry Price) × Quantity

PnL (%) = (Exit Price - Entry Price) / Entry Price × 100

Leveraged PnL (%) = PnL (%) × Leverage

Short Position PnL

For a short position, you profit when the price goes down.

PnL = (Entry Price - Exit Price) × Quantity

Breakeven Price

Breakeven = Entry Price ± (Funding + Fees) / Quantity

For longs: Breakeven is slightly above entry. For shorts: slightly below entry.

Risk/Reward Ratio

Always calculate your R:R before entering. A 1:2 R:R means you risk $1 to potentially make $2. Professional traders typically only take trades with R:R of 1:2 or better.

R:R = |Take Profit - Entry| / |Entry - Stop Loss|
